Keep Calm and Enjoy Summer

la terrazza del castello di Girard è aperta!

The Girard terrace is open!

Sun is out, music is on, the pool [next door] is open ... yep, it’s time to uncover the patio, or as we like to call it, the terrace. Our terrace is being built in stages. Phase 1 was compete last year and we love it!

Black doors are my signature design

I started to paint my doors black (interior and exterior) almost ten years ago. When I give painters my door color selection, I am always met with the same response, "Are you really sure you want all these doors black?". Yep, sure do!

The two sets of French doors at the rear of the sunroom both open out to the terrace, where we have a two-way gas fireplace. The fireplace seems to be a favorite to most. There is another set of French doors on the side, that when complete with Phase 2, will open out to an outdoor kitchen and dining area with additional seating. Then, I will be ready for some parties!

Indoor meets outdoor

I‘ve always wanted the outdoor space to be an extension from the main house, however in Pittsburgh, we aren’t able to use outdoor space but seven months each year. When designing our space, we added amenities so the space would be multi-functional. While we aren't ready to add a TV yet, we always have the option.

Just another living space!

Don’t be afraid to decorate your outdoor space, especially if it's covered. We haven't covered our space yet, but designed and built it structurally to add a roof later. There is nothing better than asking guests to meet you on the terrace for cocktails, and it feels like you are in your living room! The rug is so soft, I almost didn't use it outside ... I thought about using it in my sunroom!

There are so many things that you can easily recycle from inside. For instance, the Paris street print, it's been sitting in my basement since we moved into this house. We had two, used one on the mantle opposite this wall inside, and this particular print was going to Stephen's Mothers Market (more on that later!), so I figured it's a good way to layer with a vase or two, and create depth to the mantle.

It's 5 o'clock somewhere!

Jimmy Buffet is no dummy! These Pottery Barn glasses are so adorable for the outdoors! Pair it with a few succulents on a tray, and your coffee table is warm and inviting. Perfect for a nice cold glass of iced tea on a hot day. Long island iced tea, that is!

Let's Chill This Summer

This is where we will be this summer. If you see the furniture uncovered, stop by for a glass of wine, cocktail, iced tea, coffee, whatever! We'll be here, and if we aren't, we'll be at our friends next door, in the pool!!
